Summary

The competent Nurse, in a similar clinical setting, practices independently and demonstrates awareness of all relevant aspects of patient care. The Nurse provides both routine and complex care while focusing on long-range goals or plans. Continually developing the ability to manage contingencies in clinical nursing is essential. The Nurse is adept at making appropriate assignments and delegating tasks to other care providers to effectively manage clinical situations.

Responsibilities

• Meets expectations of applicable competencies, including Leadership roles.
• Consistent with the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, delivers nursing care utilizing the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients.
• Addressees increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families in accordance with their level of practice.
• Administers medications and treatments following appropriate protocols, monitoring for side effects and effectiveness of prescribed treatments.
• Documents patient history, symptoms, medication, and care provided.
• Assesses learning needs and provides education to patients, family members, and caregivers; identifies issues and resources.

Job Requirements

Education/Skills

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing is preferred.

Experience

• Minimum of 1 year of experience in a related nursing specialty is preferred.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

• Current BLS certification required (American Heart Association only).
• Current ACLS certification required (American Heart Association only).
• Current PALS certification required (American Heart Association only).
• Current TNCC certification required.
• RN License in the state of Texas or compact.

Position Requirements

• All newly hired experienced RNs must attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire.
• New hires will be precepted by a designated trained staff member, and initial onboarding requirements will be validated through successful completion of designated organizational entry competency validation and emergency department-specific competency validation.
• Newly licensed RNs may participate in a residency program or other specific orientation. Skills and competency completion will be achieved with the preceptor at the bedside and documented through the program’s tracking software.
• Completion of all annual competency verification requirements is mandatory.
