Travel Nursing Job Details

  • Nursing Schedule: 36 hours per week; 12-hour night shifts from 3:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.
  • Scheduling: Weekends required; scheduled days may vary based on staffing needs. Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed.
  • Holiday Coverage: Two of the three winter holidays required
  • Emergency Department Profile: Approximately 165 visits per day, 71 rooms, and typical patient ratios of 4–5 patients per nurse
  • Patient Population: Adolescents, adults, pediatric, and geriatric patients

Travel Emergency Department RN Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license; a Virginia license pending may be accepted if obtained before the required pre-start deadline
  • At least 2 years of recent Emergency Department nursing experience
  • At least 1 year of experience in a Level I trauma facility or 2 years of experience in a Level II trauma facility
  • Experience caring for pediatric patients, whether in a dedicated pediatric emergency setting or a mixed-population Emergency Department
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record documentation
  • Current ACLS, BLS, PALS, and TNCC certifications; TNCC may be pending at submission but must be completed before the start date
  • Ability to provide required references and certification documentation
  • Ability to float within the Registered Nurse scope of practice as needed
  • BSN preferred
  • Influenza vaccination required

Emergency Department RN Responsibilities

  • Provide rapid assessment, triage, stabilization, treatment, and ongoing monitoring for patients presenting with urgent and emergent conditions
  • Deliver safe, evidence-based emergency nursing care to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
  • Care for patients with Level I trauma, comprehensive stroke, and STEMI/chest pain presentations
  • Recognize changes in patient condition and initiate timely interventions and escalation of care
  • Administer medications and treatments, perform nursing procedures, and monitor patient responses
  • Accurately document assessments, interventions, and outcomes in Epic
  • Collaborate with providers and interdisciplinary partners, including respiratory services, radiology, pharmacy, social services, and interpretation services
  • Support efficient patient flow while maintaining compassionate, patient-centered care in a high-volume Emergency Department
