Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team for a 13-week assignment in Corpus Christi, TX. This position requires excellent teamwork and urgency in delivering high-quality patient care.

Unit Information

  • Number of Beds: 16 with 8 hall chairs
  • Number of Staff per Shift: 6-7
  • Day Shift Staff:
    • 1 Charge Nurse
    • 1 Triage Nurse
    • 4-5 Nurses (including one mid-shift)
    • 1 Unit Secretary
    • 1-2 Techs
  • Night Shift Staff:
    • 1 Charge Nurse
    • 1 Triage Nurse
    • 4-5 Nurses (including one mid-shift)
    • Unit Secretary (7 pm to midnight)
    • 1 Tech
  • Patient Ratios: 1:4, with the potential to take 6 low-acuity patients (ESI 4 & 5)
  • Equipment: Cardiac monitors, Baxter IV pumps, HP’s, Tonopen, and more
  • EMR: Meditech, with vital signs flowing into the chart

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Must have:
    • Level II or Level III trauma experience
    • Current certification in TNCC, ENPC or PALS, ACLS, and BLS
    • Strong commitment to compassion, urgency, and teamwork
  • Preferred:
    • CEN or TCRN certification
    • Greater than two years of emergency department experience

Responsibilities

The Emergency Department Registered Nurse will perform the following typical procedures:

  • Patient assessments and documentation
  • Medication administration and wound care
  • IV insertions and urine collection
  • Lab draws and care for patients from ESI 5 through 1

Dress Code

  • Scrub Color: Royal Blue preferred
  • On Sundays, staff are encouraged to incorporate team spirit by wearing their team jerseys (e.g., Astros, Cowboys)

Unit Policies

Unit guidelines include:

  • Mandatory shift huddles at 7 am and 7 pm for all staff, unless providing critical care
  • EMTALA training is mandatory for all staff
