Job Title: Registered Nurse - Dialysis Profession: RN Specialty: Dialysis Duration: 15 weeks Shift: 12 Hours Day Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Active IL license required Certifications: BLS required Must-Have Skills: Competent to run hemodialysis treatments on Fresenius 2008T. Strong physical assessment skills. Description: The dialysis unit has 9 beds but also performs treatments at patient bedsides depending on care levels and types of treatment. Patient ratios range from 1:1 up to 1:5 with dialysis tech assistance. Common diagnoses include any patient hospital-wide, primarily focusing on general and medical-surgical patients. Unique aspects of this role involve managing care on the dialysis unit and limited off-unit responsibilities with bedside staff. The Registered Nurse will run dialysis and monitor patients closely. A charge nurse and house supervisor will be present on each shift. Dialysis techs are available for support. The electronic medical record system in use is Epic. The schedule includes weekend requirements of every other Saturday and one Sunday approximately every eight weeks. Holidays include service every other year, with the facility closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas. There is no call or standby requirement. Floating to general or medical-surgical floors may occur but only as a support role, without patient assignments. Scrubs may be of any color, provided the top and bottom match. Orientation consists of unit training with a preceptor, lasting 1-3 days based on skill level and comfort. RNs may encounter patients on CPAP or BiPAP for sleep during their shift, but are not required to read telemetry.
