Registered Nurse - Renal Dialysis Job Summary

This role is for a dedicated Registered Nurse specializing in Renal Dialysis within an outpatient setting in Cooperstown, New York. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive care to patients undergoing hemodialysis treatments, managing their needs throughout the dialysis process.

This position involves direct patient interaction, monitoring treatment efficacy, and ensuring patient safety and comfort in a critical care environment. The RN will play a vital role in patient education and collaboration with an interdisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess patient health status, including vital signs and medical history, prior to, during, and post-dialysis treatments.
  • Initiate, monitor, and discontinue hemodialysis treatments according to established protocols and physician orders.
  • Administer prescribed medications, including IV fluids and other therapies, ensuring accurate dosage and timing.
  • Educate patients and their families on dialysis procedures, dietary restrictions, medication management, and self-care techniques.
  • Monitor patients for adverse reactions or complications during dialysis and intervene appropriately.
  • Manage and assess vascular access sites (fistulas, grafts, catheters) for patency and signs of infection.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough patient records, documenting all aspects of care, observations, and interventions.
  • Collaborate effectively with nephrologists, dietitians, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with all facility policies, procedures, and regulatory standards (e.g., CMS, OSHA).
Required Qualifications
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of recent experience as a Dialysis Registered Nurse.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification in Nephrology Nursing (CNN) or Certified Dialysis Nurse (CDN).
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
