Genie Healthcare is seeking a travel nurse RN CVICU for a travel nursing job in Peoria, Illinois.

Unit Overview

  • 20-bed CVICU, all private rooms
  • All rooms are monitored
  • Typical RN-to-patient ratios: 1:1, 1:2, or 2:1, based on acuity
  • Fast-paced, high-acuity cardiovascular critical care environment
  • Charge RN and house supervisor available 24/7
  • Respiratory Therapy available 24/7
  • Monitor technicians available; RNs are expected to independently interpret cardiac rhythms
  • CV and critical care APPs are available in the ICU the majority of the time, with providers on call as needed

Patient Population

 

The unit primarily cares for complex cardiovascular and post-operative patients, including:

  • Post-open-heart surgery patients
  • CABG and valve procedures
  • CABG/valve combined procedures
  • Aortic dissections and AAA
  • Vascular and carotid procedures
  • Post-cardiovascular procedures
  • STEMI, unstable angina, and NSTEMI
  • Cardiogenic shock and cardiomyopathy
  • Severe heart failure
  • TAVR patients
  • Patients requiring targeted temperature management
  • Transcutaneous and transvenous pacing
  • Ventilated patients
  • Cardiac-related events requiring ICU-level care
  • ICU overflow patients, including COVID patients
  • Upcoming VAD and post-heart-transplant patient population

Critical Care Equipment & Skills

 

Travelers must be comfortable managing advanced cardiovascular ICU equipment, including:

  • IABP
  • Impella
  • Swan-Ganz catheters
  • ECMO
  • External pacemakers
  • CRRT
  • Ventilators
  • CPAP/BPAP
  • Heated high-flow oxygen
  • Nitric oxide
  • PICCs
  • Midlines
  • CVCs
  • Arterial lines — radial and femoral

Drips & Medication Management

 

RNs are expected to independently manage and titrate multiple critical-care infusions, including:

  • Dopamine
  • Dobutamine
  • Levophed
  • Epinephrine
  • Phenylephrine
  • Vasopressin
  • Cleviprex
  • Propofol
  • Fentanyl
  • Versed
  • Insulin
  • Heparin
  • Esmolol
