Job Summary:
The ICU Cardiovascular (ICU OH) specialty located in a dedicated cardiac intensive care unit is seeking a highly experienced registered nurse for night shifts. This role involves managing post-open-heart surgical patients, including those with complex cardiovascular diagnoses, utilizing advanced intervention equipment, and providing critical care to ventilated and high-acuity patients. Candidates must be capable of delivering immediate, expert care in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.

  • Required Qualifications: BLS (AHA); 2+ years of ICU experience in cardiovascular or specialized critical care settings; valid nursing license in the applicable jurisdiction
  • Preferred Qualifications: ACLS certification; experience with post VAD placement and heart transplant patients; proficiency with respiratory therapy equipment (ventilators, CPAP, BPAP, high-flow oxygen); ability to interpret cardiac strips; experience with titrating multiple drips such as dopamine, dobutamine, vasopressors, sedatives, and insulin; familiarity with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABPs), and other cardiovascular intervention devices
  • Additional Information:
    • Manage complex cardiovascular patients including post-operative cardiac surgery, cardiogenic shock, STEMI, unstable angina, and other cardiac-related critical conditions
    • Titrate multiple medication drips following protocols
    • Read and interpret Philips cardiac monitors independently
    • Work with a multidisciplinary team including hospitalist physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, and monitor technicians
    • Maintain high standards of assessment, communication, and protocol adherence in a high-stress, dynamic environment
    • Float to other care levels as needed, covering a variety of cardiovascular ICU components excluding immediate post-op (which is a bonus)
    • Must be proficient in the use of Swan-Ganz catheters, CVCs, arterial lines, temporary pacemakers, and other specialized equipment
    • No specific scrub color requirements; professional appearance required
