Registered Nurse (RN) - CVICU

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) for a 13-week contract. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical skills and experience in managing complex cardiac patients in a critical care environment.

Shifts

  • Night Shift: 3x12-Hour (19:00 - 07:00)
  • Day Shift: 3x12-Hour (07:30 - 19:30)

Key Responsibilities

  • Caring for critically ill cardiac patients requiring intensive monitoring and intervention.
  • Administer medications and therapies as prescribed and monitor patients for response.
  • Perform bedside procedures including central line and arterial line insertions, bronchoscopy, chest tube insertion, and Swan/PA catheter insertion.
  • Utilize specialized equipment such as Impella, VAD, IABP, CRRT, and monitoring devices.
  • Maintain effective communication with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Participate in targeted temperature management as needed.

Patient Demographics

This role involves caring for adult and geriatric patients with various cardiac conditions, including but not limited to:

  • Cardiogenic shock
  • Cardiac arrest
  • Heart failure
  • Cardiac arrhythmias
  • Myocardial infarction (MI)
  • Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

Qualifications

  • Must have a valid RN license for the state.
  • BLS and ACLS certification required.
  • CPI and NIH certifications preferred.
  • CCRN certification is a plus.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in CVICU is required, though first-time travelers with strong CVICU experience will be considered.

Schedule Requirements

  • Every other weekend commitment is required.
  • Holidays may be required as per the schedule.
  • Floating within the specialty may be required based on patient needs.

Work Environment

This position is based in a 15-bed Cardiac Intensive Care Unit with an average daily census of 10 patients. The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:1, with up to 3 patients for those who are more stable and lower acuity.
