CICU/CVICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview

The CICU/CVICU Registered Nurse will provide critical care to adult and geriatric patients in a fast-paced environment. This position involves rotating day and night shifts, ensuring comprehensive care for patients with complex cardiac issues.

Job Details

• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shifts: 3x12 hours (Day: 07:00-19:00; Night: 19:00-07:30)
• Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirements: As scheduled
• Floating: Required within the specialty and to lower acuity levels as needed

Patient Care Responsibilities

The RN will manage and care for a diverse patient population, including those experiencing:

• Cardiogenic shock
• Cardiac arrest
• Heart failure
• Cardiac arrhythmias, including heart blocks
• Myocardial infarction (MI)
• Pulmonary hypertension
• Advanced therapy workups (LVAD, heart transplants)
• Mechanical support devices (IABP, Impella)
• Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
• Hypertensive urgency/emergency

Unit Specifications

• Patient Demographics: Adults and geriatrics
• Number of Rooms/Beds: 15
• Average Daily Census: 10 patients
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:1, up to 3 with stable, lower acuity patients

Technical Skills and Equipment

The RN will utilize specialized equipment and perform various procedures, including:

• Bedside central line and arterial line insertions
• Bronchoscopy
• Chest tube insertions
• Swan-Ganz catheter insertions
• Targeted temperature management
• Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT)

Familiarity with equipment such as Impella devices, VADs, IABP, CRRT machines, ventilators, cooling devices, and CCO monitors is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience: 2 years of experience in CVICU required; strong skills may allow for first-time travelers
• Licenses/Certifications: Active RN license in the state, BLS, ACLS, CPI, NIH; CCRN certification preferred
