Schedule

  • Night Shift
  • 3 × 12-hour shifts per week
  • 36 hours/week
  • Every other weekend
  • 12 hours/day
  • May float to MICU, SICU, CVICU, Stepdown, Med/Surg, and other units as needed

Unit Description

The CVICU is a 28-bed cardiovascular recovery and intensive care unit providing high-acuity care to cardiovascular patients. The unit utilizes advanced technology, critical-thinking skills, and nationally recognized standards of care in a patient- and family-centered environment.

CVICU nurses provide pre-operative support and immediate post-operative recovery for:

  • Open-heart surgery
  • Heart transplants
  • Ventricular assist device (VAD) implantation
  • Interventional and structural heart procedures
  • Acute cardiology and heart failure patients

Nurses may care for patients requiring:

  • Impella
  • IABP
  • ECMO
  • C-Mag
  • Temporary left/right ventricular support
  • Inotropic medications
  • Continuous dialysis and ultrafiltration
  • Invasive lines and advanced hemodynamic monitoring
  • Permanent and temporary ventricular assist devices

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
  • Provide specialized nursing care to critically ill cardiovascular patients.
  • Deliver age- and culturally appropriate patient care and education.
  • Manage complex cardiovascular and critical-care therapies.
  • Monitor invasive lines, medications, hemodynamics, and advanced life-support devices.
  • Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and follow appropriate communication channels.
  • Demonstrate ongoing clinical competency and professional growth.
  • Adapt to changes and work effectively in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Float to other critical-care and inpatient units as required.

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma of Nursing required.
  • BSN preferred.
  • Current Ohio RN License or Compact RN License.
  • Current AHA BLS certification.
  • Current AHA ACLS certification.
  • Demonstrated clinical competence in critical-care nursing.
  • Ability to provide age- and culturally specific patient care.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
