Observes, assesses, and records symptoms, reactions, and progress of patients. Makes nursing rounds and takes and records vital signs. Prepares and administers prescribed medications and treatment plans. Monitors patients who are restrained and provides immediate medical attention in emergencies. Administers first aid and arranges transportation to emergency services when necessary. Counsels patients regarding the need for medical referrals. Participates in staff development and education initiatives. Reviews care plans created by staff and trains new employees as necessary.
