Key Responsibilities
- Circulate and scrub in cardiovascular, vascular, and general operating room cases across a high-volume, Level I Trauma center environment with 16 OR suites
- Perform and support open heart scrubbing and cardiac circulating duties, including vascular and thoracic cases; scrub experience including open heart scrubbing is required
- Maintain efficient OR turnover times with an expectation of less than 20 minutes between cases; average daily caseload of 35–50 cases
- Operate and assist with advanced surgical technology including Da Vinci robotic systems, Stealth neuro-navigation, and Synthes/Stryker orthopedic trauma instrumentation
- Float across multiple campuses as assigned and participate in on-call rotations, including weekend call coverage from end of shift Friday through 6:30 AM Monday
- Document accurately using EPIC electronic medical records; holiday coverage (1–2 of 3 summer holidays) may be expected unless the unit is closed
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 24 months of current/recent Cardiovascular OR (CVOR) and general operating room experience required (approximately 80% cardiac, 20% general)
- Strong and proficient experience in cardiac, vascular, and thoracic surgery required; basic general surgery circulating experience required
- Scrub experience, including open heart scrubbing, required
- EPIC EMR experience within the previous 3 years required
- Trauma Level II experience required; Trauma Level I experience highly preferred
- Must have completed at least one prior travel assignment within the previous 15 months — first-time travelers are not eligible
- Active Iowa RN license or active Compact/Multistate RN license required at time of submission
- Active BLS certification through AHA (American Heart Association) or ARC (American Red Cross) required
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (based on driver's license) to be eligible
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Trauma Level I center experience highly preferred
- Ability to both scrub and circulate across multiple service lines including cardiac, neuro, robotics, gynecology, urology, general surgery, pediatrics, and transplant
- Professional reference from a charge nurse, supervisor, nurse manager, director, CNO, or COO within the past 24 months preferred
- Skills checklist specific to Operating Room nursing (scrub/circulating) preferred at time of submission
