Typically, two cases are performed each week. The nurse-to-circulator ratio is two circulators per case. The electronic medical record system utilized is Cerner and Surginet. A charge nurse assigns shifts and cases for the following day. There are no dedicated operating room technicians. Weekend work and call rotation are required. Call for cardiovascular operating room nurses is split and rotated separately. Currently, one cardiovascular operating room nurse covers call each night. Call response time is expected to be 30 minutes. Holiday shifts are also a requirement. Scrub colors are provided by the facility. Common types of cases include straightforward CABG, AVR, MVR, and thoracotomy. Scrubbing is not required for registered nurses but would be beneficial. Floating is only permitted within the operating room to other specialties. Floor-specific orientation will last a week or until comfortable. The hospital reserves the right to cancel up to four shifts during a 13-week assignment.
