Experience: Minimum of 24 months of current operating room experience, with 80% in cardiac cases and 20% in general cases
License: Active Iowa/IA license or compact/multistate license
Certifications: BLS (AHA)
Must-Have:
- Strong proficiency in cardiac, vascular, and thoracic cases
- Basic general surgery circulating experience
- Scrub experience including open-heart scrubbing
- EPIC electronic medical records experience within the previous 3 years
- Trauma level II experience preferred
- No first-time travelers; must have completed a travel assignment within the previous 15 months
Description:
This position will involve working in a cardiovascular operating room setting.
The RN will be responsible for circulating and scrubbing in various surgical procedures.
Expectations include an average caseload of 35-50 cases per day with turnover times of fewer than 20 minutes.
The RN may be required to float across different campuses.
The call for weekends extends from the end of shift on Friday until 6:30 AM on Monday.
Orientation will begin with 2-3 weeks in general operating room rooms to ensure familiarity with the department.
The RN will then transition to circulating and scrubbing in vascular cases.
After this, they will circulate heart cases and begin to take shadow call for cardiac surgeries.
The RN will be supported by charge nurses who will ensure that they are not placed in cases beyond their current level of competency.
This position requires a professional reference from a charge nurse, supervisor, nurse manager, director, CNO, or COO, evaluated within the last 24 months.
