Job Title: Cardiothoracic Surgery RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Cardiothoracic Surgery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 10H Days Hours per Shift: 4, 10 hour days (0630-1700) with mandatory call Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Valid RN License Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Competence in Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes Description: Registered Nurses in this role will work in the Cardiovascular Operating Room. Nurses must adhere to a 50-mile radius rule for employment. A pre-screen interview is required to assess clinical competence. Should the clinical recommendation be positive, the candidate will proceed to a second interview or receive an offer. There is a Day 1 pass/fail exam on Foley catheter insertion for OR nurses. All nurses are expected to complete a skills lab for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes. These skills are essential for maintaining sterile fields during procedures. If a candidate is not competent in these areas, they may not be a good fit. In addition to skills training, nurses will receive education on lifts, restraints, and wound care. The operating room consists of 6 ORs plus 1 hybrid OR. Shifts are structured as 4-10 hour days from Monday to Friday. The average number of procedures per day is approximately 7, with a maximum of 15. Weekend coverage may include 1 weekend of first call and 1 weekend of second call per month. Holidays may require on-call availability. Mandatory call includes 1-2 nights each week, both days and weekends. Floating to general operative roles may be necessary. The team includes Charge Nurses and CSTs on staff. Common cases include open heart, vascular, thoracic, and transplant surgeries. The charting system used is Cerner. Candidates must possess BLS and ACLS certifications.
