Unit description: Open heart unit with 8 cardiac operating rooms. Includes 7 cardiac surgeons. Handles 9-16 cases per operative day. More than 2000 cardiac cases are performed each year. Involves open and robotic cardiac surgery. Supports a heart failure and heart transplant program. Each case typically has 1 first assistant, unless both femoral and radial veins are needed. Involves collaboration with a Certified Surgical Technologist, Heart Holder Registered Nurse, and a Circulator.
