Contract | 13 Weeks | Nights | 3x12-Hour Shifts (19:00–07:30) | Possibility of rotating 11a–11p shifts based on unit needs | Every third weekend required | Holidays required as scheduled | On-call expected per rotating 6-week schedule (24–36 hours) | Floating to MSICU required as needed | Local candidates accepted
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care in a CVICU setting with a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio and an average daily census of 3–5 patients on a 6-bed unit
- Manage post-operative cardiac surgery patients including those recovering from CABG, MVR, AVR, TAVR, mitral clips, and Inari procedures
- Actively manage hemodynamically unstable patients during the first 6 hours post-op, including those on two or more inotropic medications, with open chest, extreme coagulopathy, or at surgeon's discretion
- Operate and monitor advanced cardiac support devices including OHS/Impella, ECMO (with perfusionist on-site), CRRT (with dialysis on-site), and IABP
- Care for patients presenting with STEMI/NSTEMI, cardiogenic shock, and cardiac surgery re-admissions or ICU bounce-backs
- Float to MSICU as needed; participate in on-call coverage per rotating 6-week schedule
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience required; immediate open heart post-operative experience required
- Active Maryland RN license or Compact RN license at time of submission
- BLS certification (AHA only) required
- ACLS certification (AHA only) required
- CPI certification required (The Calm Every Storm online version is the only acceptable online vendor)
- NIH Stroke Scale certification required
- Local candidates accepted; first-time travelers with qualifying CVICU and open heart post-op experience will be considered
Preferred Experience / Skills
- OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse) certification preferred
- TCNN certification preferred
- Experience with ECMO, IABP, Impella, and CRRT in a high-acuity cardiac surgical environment
