Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in a high-acuity 24-bed CVICU/CTICU setting with a 1:1–2 nurse-to-patient ratio, with a high number of 1:1 assignments
- Care for complex cardiac and thoracic surgery patients including those requiring IABP, CRRT, ECMO, TAVR, lung transplant, esophagectomy, lobectomy, and pneumonectomy
- Perform and assist with frequent bedside procedures including bronchoscopies, Swan-Ganz catheter insertions, and epidural management
- Demonstrate strong IV skills independently, as no dedicated IV team is available on the unit
- Complete sterile field procedures including Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes as evaluated during a pass/fail SIMs Lab on Day 1 of orientation
- Fulfill weekend requirements of 4 shifts per 4-week schedule and participate in float coverage to ICU, Med/Surg, and Telemetry units as needed
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license with current BLS and ACLS certifications
- Level I Trauma experience required
- ICU-only experience required; CVICU experience strongly preferred
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance (two attempts permitted)
- Must pass a Day 1 pass/fail SIMs Lab evaluation covering Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes; competency in sterile field technique is essential
- Proficiency with Cerner EMR and Philips telemetry systems
Preferred Experience / Skills
- CCRN certification preferred
- Hands-on experience with IABP and CABG patients
- Familiarity with transplant patient populations and associated pharmacy protocols
- Experience with high-volume bedside procedures in an intensive care environment
