    Contract | Night Shift | 12-Hour Shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) | Every other weekend and every other holiday required

    Key Responsibilities
    • Provide direct nursing care in a 20-bed, all-private, fully monitored CVICU with patient ratios of 1:1, 1:2, or 2:1 depending on acuity
    • Care for a complex cardiovascular patient population including post open-heart surgical patients (CABG, valve, dissections, AAA, vascular procedures, carotids), STEMI, cardiogenic shock, cardiomyopathy, severe heart failure, TAVRs, ventilated patients, and ICU overflow including COVID patients
    • Titrate multiple vasoactive and sedation drips including dopamine, dobutamine, levophed, epinephrine, neo, vasopressin, cleviprex, propofol, fentanyl, versed, insulin, heparin, and esmolol, among others
    • Manage and troubleshoot specialty intervention equipment including IABPs, Impellas, Swan-Ganz catheters, ECMO, external pacemakers, and CRRT; manage lines including PICC, midlines, CVCs, Swans, and arterial lines (radial and femoral)
    • Read and interpret cardiac rhythm strips independently using Philips monitoring systems; collaborate with monitor techs, PCTs, charge nurses, and respiratory therapy staff available 24/7
    • Float to all levels of care as needed; travelers are expected to assume a full patient team assignment
    Required Qualifications
    • Active RN licensure (or compact eligibility) in Illinois
    • Minimum of 2 years of solid CVICU experience with the ability to independently manage this patient population from day one — unit cannot provide training on equipment or patient population
    • BLS certification required
    • Proficiency with Swan-Ganz catheters, CVCs, arterial lines, temporary pacemakers, IABPs, and ventilator management
    • Demonstrated ability to titrate multiple drips simultaneously and interpret cardiac rhythm strips
    • Strong critical thinking, assessment, communication, and time management skills; ability to perform in a fast-paced, high-acuity, high-stress environment
    Preferred Experience / Skills
    • ACLS certification preferred
    • CCRN certification is a plus
    • Experience with immediate post-operative cardiac surgical patients is a bonus
    • Prior travel nursing experience in ICU settings
