Key Responsibilities
Provide direct patient care in an 18-bed CVICU managing diagnoses including heart failure, STEMI, pulmonary emboli, arrhythmias, and MICU overflow at a busy Level 1 Trauma center
Manage and titrate vasoactive and cardiac drips including epinephrine, norepinephrine, vasopressin, dobutamine, milrinone, amiodarone, cardene, and others as indicated
Monitor and manage hemodynamic lines including pulmonary artery catheters (PAC), CVP, and arterial lines; operate and troubleshoot ventilators; perform competent suctioning and identify issues requiring escalation
Operate and monitor advanced cardiac support devices including IABP, Impella, and CRRT; manage sheaths and participate in sedation and paralytic protocols using BIS and TOF monitoring
Independently interpret cardiac rhythm strips using HP monitoring systems
Float to similar units as needed; cover holidays and days immediately surrounding holidays as required
Required Qualifications
Active RN license with eligibility to work in Texas
ACLS certification required
BLS certification required
Proficiency with Epic electronic health record documentation
Minimum 3+ years of CVICU or comparable critical care experience in a high-acuity, high-volume hospital setting
Must be open to floating to similar units and flexible with scheduling to meet unit needs
Experience working in a large, busy hospital environment with high patient acuity
Familiarity with CRRT, IABP, Impella, and advanced sedation/paralytic monitoring (BIS & TOF)
Comfort with a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio with occasional 1:1 assignments
