Registered Nurse – CVICU (Cardiovascular ICU)

Contract | Days | 3x12-Hour Shifts (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high-acuity cardiovascular critical care in a 19-bed CVICU with an average daily census of approximately 15 patients, maintaining a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Deliver immediate post-operative care for open-heart surgery patients, including those recovering from CABG, valve repair/replacement, and aortic aneurysm/dissection procedures
• Manage patients requiring advanced mechanical circulatory support, including Impella, IABP, and ECMO circuits
• Monitor and manage patients on continuous IV sedation, vasoactive and cardiac drips, neuromuscular blockade, and mechanical ventilation including BiPAP/CPAP and HFNC
• Perform and interpret 12-lead EKG/ECG, ABGs, invasive hemodynamic monitoring via Swan-Ganz/PA catheters, arterial lines, and central venous pressure lines
• Float to MICU or STU/Neurology unit within scope as needed based on facility needs; every third weekend is expected (approximately 4 weekend shifts per contract)

Required Qualifications

• Active, valid Registered Nurse (RN) license — Pennsylvania RN licensure required at time of submission
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of strong, recent CVICU experience required; first-time travelers are not accepted

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Community hospital experience preferred
• Familiarity with self-scheduling practices in a high-acuity ICU environment
