Description:
The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit provides care to patients aged 16 years and older.
Patients typically have primary cardiac diagnoses, including heart failure and post-cardiac arrest.
The unit also cares for patients following cardiothoracic surgeries such as CABG, valve repair/replacement, and thoracotomy.
Additional care includes IABP therapy, Impella insertion, PCI, pacemaker insertion, ablation, arrhythmia management, STEMI/NSTEMI, and EKOS.
This is a blended unit consisting of beds designated for cardiovascular intensive care and cardiovascular intermediate care.
The cardiovascular care unit is dedicated to providing excellent patient care.
The unit’s multidisciplinary team focuses on growth and mentoring.
Nurses are specialty trained to care for this patient population.
Advanced certification is encouraged and promoted within the team.
A comprehensive training program is available covering beginner to advanced cardiovascular intensive care topics.
This includes training for intra-abdominal balloon pump management, continuous renal replacement therapy, and targeted temperature management.
