This is a busy, large Level 1 Trauma unit. Candidates need to be flexible with scheduling, as there is no self-scheduling. Weekend shifts are required. Experience using EPIC is required. CRRT experience is preferred, but training will be provided. Successful placements typically have more than 3 years of experience, previous travel experience, and have worked in a high-volume hospital. The unit has 8 to 13 beds, serving high acuity patients. The nurse-patient ratio is typically 1:2 and occasionally 1:1. Experienced ICU RNs are needed. Common diagnoses include heart transplants, lung transplants, LVAD patients, and valve surgeries. RNs will be required to titrate drips. There is a charge RN on the unit who manages patients most of the time. Nurse aids are available on the unit with a designated PCA. An Intensivist and Clientist are in-house. Respiratory Therapy is available in the ICU 24/7 and is assigned to the unit. The unit uses hardwire monitoring. Shifts are scheduled based on unit needs. Weekend shifts are required, with 6 weekend shifts in 6 weeks. Holiday shifts may be required and candidates should be willing to work them. There is no call or standby requirement for this position. Floating is required; RNs could be the first to float out depending on competency. The dress code consists of teal scrubs. The unit/department orientation includes 2 to 3 shifts with preceptors. Devices managed include LVAD, CRRT/SLED, Impella, and IABP. A cancellation policy is in effect for shifts scheduled. Charting is performed using EPIC.
