The RN provides care to these patients utilizing the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, and available resources within the institution's philosophy. Essential functions include performing all responsibilities and duties required by the unit as specific to the scope of service. The RN implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. Maintaining up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided is essential for integrating information for use by the healthcare team. The RN completes the initial assessment upon patient admission and develops an appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards based on patient and family needs. The plan of care is implemented, including nursing interventions and patient care procedures. The RN modifies the plan of care based upon continuous evaluation. Patient and employee safety is a priority; safety hazards and incidents must be reported and/or corrected. Communication with others directly and in private when necessary is encouraged to resolve issues. Constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers is an important responsibility. The RN confers with colleagues to expand knowledge and identifies personal learning needs, taking initiative to begin appropriate solutions. Fulfilling all requirements of departmental competencies is expected. Department specific functions include providing direct care of CVICU patients, maintaining a clean work environment, and completing hourly rounding on patients. The RN should proactively seek out opportunities to assist internal and external customers.
