Strong assessment skills and critical thinking abilities are necessary. Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment is essential. Candidate must be able to interpret cardiac strips and titrate multiple drips. Excellent communication, teamwork, and organization skills are required. Experience with various types of patients, including post-operative cardiac patients, is crucial. Description: This unit has 20 private, monitored beds with nurse-patient ratios that vary based on patient acuity. Common diagnoses include post open-heart surgical patients, STEMI, unstable angina, and cardiogenic shock. Candidates will work with specialty intervention equipment such as IABPs, Impellas, and ECMO. RNs are expected to manage various lines, including PICC, midlines, CVC, and arterial lines. Patient care will involve titration of multiple drips, including dopamine, levophed, and heparin. There is a charge nurse and house supervisor available on each shift, and both may take assignments. Patient care techs will support nursing staff, with ratios of 1:12 to 1:15 based on staffing. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7, and RNs are required to troubleshoot equipment. All patients are connected to Philips monitoring systems, and RNs must read and interpret their own strips. Every other weekend and holiday shifts are required, and floating to various levels of care may occur. Scrubs must be appropriate in appearance, clean, and not too tight or loose. The unit seeks a proficient candidate in all cardiovascular ICU components, with a bonus for experience in VAD and transplant care. Multiple procedures and treatments may be performed on a single patient, requiring flexibility and a proactive approach. Cancellations may occur up to 12 hours every 13 weeks. Charting is conducted using the EPIC system.
