Job Opportunity – Registered Nurse, Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) – Wisconsin

Start Date: October 12, 2026

Location: Wisconsin

Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants

Schedule: Night shift, 12-hour shifts (1900-0730), every other weekend, some holidays, no call

Highlights:

• 27-bed Cardiovascular and Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit in a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma facility
• Specialized care for cardiothoracic surgery patients, heart and lung transplant recipients, and cardiac medical patients
• Patient ratios typically 1-2 patients per nurse; comprehensive interdisciplinary support including IV teams, respiratory services, pharmacy, and rapid response teams
• Epic charting system with 24 hours of orientation provided
• Dynamic unit environment with planned and emergent procedures, supported by 2 charge RNs and a dedicated resource nurse per shift
• Travel assignment with two pre-approved time-off periods available

Requirements:

• Active RN license (Wisconsin or Compact state license accepted)
• Minimum 2 years of acute care CVICU experience within the last 3 years required
• Current AHA BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Experience and knowledge of NxStage CVVH machine required
• Level I Trauma Center experience required
• Previous travel nursing experience required
• Experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery and/or Acuity Adaptable areas preferred
• Must successfully pass telemetry competency exam prior to start (strict passing criteria apply)
• Must be located 50+ miles from facility (local candidates not accepted)
• Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine not required

Clinical Skills & Equipment:

• Advanced cardiac surgical experience including post-operative CABG, valve repair/replacement, LVAD, heart/lung transplant, and thoracic surgery patients
• Proficiency with specialized equipment including CRRT (NxStage), IABP, Impella, HM3 LVAD, ECMO, and Zoll Thermoguard
• Expert skills in hemodynamic monitoring including pulmonary artery catheters, arterial lines, CVP monitoring, and epicardial pacing wire management
• Competency in ventilator management, titration of vasoactive and cardiac drips, and management of patients with multisystem organ dysfunction
• Experience with complex cardiovascular procedures and interventions including TAVR, cardiac catheterization, and STEMI/NSTEMI management

Patient Population:

• Adult and geriatric patients requiring specialized cardiovascular and cardiothoracic intensive care
• Common diagnoses include CABG, valve repair/replacement, aneurysm repair, aortic dissection, LVAD, heart and lung transplant, STEMI/NSTEMI, cardiogenic shock, heart failure, and arrhythmia management
• Daily census of approximately 26 patients across 27 private ICU-capable rooms
