Job Title: RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: CVICU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 07:00-19:00 Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years, with at least one year in an ICU License: Active RN license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIH Stroke Scale Must-Have: - 36 months of RN experience, with at least one year in an ICU - One previous successful travel nursing assignment in a facility using a similar documentation system - Ability to care for up to 1-3 ICU patients and comfort in managing patients on a ventilator - Proficient in reading telemetry strips - Prior CVICU experience Description: Traveler will be scheduled in accordance with facility policy. Traveler is expected to work every other weekend and holidays in rotation with hospital employees. Unit specifics include 28 mixed ICU beds with patient ratios of 1:2 and 1:3. The unit holds inpatient PCU and med-surg admissions. Unit staff includes RNs, and type of equipment consists of mobile phones and mobile computer workstations on wheels. The documentation system used is Meditech. Scheduling requires three 12-hour shifts per week, including every other weekend. Travelers are the first to float and could be sent to the emergency department or PCU to care for ICU holds. Bedside shift report is the method of patient handoff. Required advanced skills include CRRT, advanced hemodynamics, and phlebotomy. Nurses also administer respiratory treatments outside of the ICU, such as inhalers and nebulizers. Procedures performed on the unit include post-op day 0 CABG, impellas, balloon pumps, Swan Ganz, and advanced hemodynamics. Experience with neuro procedures for aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage is also preferred, along with familiarity with EVDs, bolts, and induced hypothermia. A BSN is preferred, along with advanced certifications and TNCC certification. Dress code consists of navy uniforms. Travelers interested in becoming skilled Neuro ICU or Cardiovascular ICU nurses will receive training. Opportunity to train for head and neck flap procedures is available.
