This is a Level II Trauma Center with a Level III NICU. The facility is Magnet Designated and has a Comprehensive Stroke Center. The unit has 30 beds with an average patient census. Patient types include: Cardiac: Immediate post-op CABG, TAVR/TMVR, valve repairs/replacement, heart transplants, pacemakers Thoracic surgeries: Fresh post-op esophagectomy, pneumonectomy, lobectomy Vascular: Fresh post-op AAA, TVAR, carotid endarterectomy Patient ratios are RN: 1:1 or 1:2 for regular ICU status, and 1:3 for mixed status. Tech ratio is 1:8-10. Support within the department includes a charge nurse with rare patient assignments, dedicated CVICU intensivists, CT surgeons, hospitalists, and general intensivists on call 24/7. ICU designated respiratory therapists are available around the clock. Telemetry monitoring is conducted at the bedside and nurse’s station. Technology and equipment utilized include an EMR system, IV pumps, and medication dispensing systems. Float staff may be required to assist in other ICUs and MSUs. Weekend rotation is every other weekend. Holiday expectations are 1-2 per contract. Approval of requested time off is permitted for up to 7 days. Shift times are 0700-1900 or 1900-0700, based on a 6-week scheduling cycle. All staff adhere to a fatigue policy that limits work hours. Scrub colors must be solid and professional with no graphics or logos.
