The facility is a Level II Trauma Center with a Level III NICU and is magnet designated. The unit has 30 beds with an average patient census per day. The patient types include immediate post-op cardiac surgeries, thoracic surgeries, and vascular surgeries. Patient ratios include RN to patient ratios of 1:1 or 1:2 for regular ICU status and 1:3 for mixed status. There is a dedicated charge nurse, and staff rarely have patient assignments. Support staff includes a hospitalist and intensivist available on-site 24/7. The unit utilizes electronic medical records and specific equipment such as IV pumps and monitors. Floating may occur to other ICUs or holding areas for patients waiting for an inpatient bed. Scheduling requires weekend rotation every other week and 1-2 holiday shifts per contract. RTO approval is allowed up to seven days in advance. Staff cannot work more than 60 hours in a week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts. Scrub colors should be solid and professional with no graphics or logos.
