Job Title: RN - CVICU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year of ICU experience License: Active RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Cardiac and hemodynamic monitoring skills Ability to interpret cardiac strips and rhythms Experience with arterial lines and titration of drips Ventilator care experience Description: This role involves working within a community-based hospital that supports a teaching status with interns, residents, advanced practice providers, and nursing students. The unit consists of 8 beds with an average daily census of 7 patients. Patient types include those requiring advanced hemodynamic monitoring after myocardial infarctions, cardiac interventional procedures, and various surgical patients. This role will support patients with respiratory compromise, renal failure requiring continuous renal replacement therapy, and those in severe sepsis with hemodynamic instability. Close management is required for patients post open heart surgery or with cardiac support devices. The nurse will be responsible for managing patients who may require targeted temperature management following cardiac arrests and monitoring neuro medical cases. Patient ratios are typically 1:2 in ICU settings, with special high acuity cases receiving 1:1 care. Additional support from nurse techs and receptionists is available within the unit. Technical requirements include familiarity with electronic medical records and specific monitoring equipment. The unit encourages a team-focused culture emphasizing collaboration and support among staff members. Weekend rotations and holiday expectations apply. This position will also require flexibility and adaptability to care for various patient needs within critical care environments.
