Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: PICU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 07:00 - 19:00 Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Active RN License Certifications: PALS Must-Have: Intubated/ventilator experience ICU-level care experience Description: This position involves working in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. The unit has 24 beds and a staff of 40. Staffing includes one charge nurse and 5-6 registered nurses on day shifts, depending on census, with similar staffing on night shifts. Patient ratios are 2:1, with 1:1 for higher acuity and 3:1 for lower acuity. Key equipment includes ventilators, drips, chest tubes, central lines, syringe pumps, trach care, and gastric tubes. The electronic medical record system used is Meditech. The unit admits all ICU-level care patients, encompassing various body systems. Candidates must possess experience with intubated patients and ventilator management. Preferred candidates will have ECMO experience and CRRT experience. Typical procedures performed on the unit include central line placements, chest tube placements, sedation, lumbar punctures, and intubations. The ideal candidate should be flexible to change, possess good communication skills with the medical team, and have a friendly, positive attitude. Weekend coverage is required every other weekend. A PICU manual will be provided on arrival, outlining the processes and guidelines for care in the unit.
