    Registered Nurse – Cardiac Stepdown

    Schedule / Job Type

    Contract | Nights | 3x12-Hour Shifts (18:45–07:15) | 36 Hours per Week | 13–26 Week Assignments

    Key Responsibilities
    • Provide direct patient care on a cardiac stepdown unit managing diagnoses including Atrial Fibrillation, CHF, ACS, CAD, aortic and mitral valve conditions, cardiomyopathy, and vascular conditions
    • Monitor and interpret cardiac telemetry and dysrhythmias, and manage cardiac drips including titration as required
    • Perform and assist with sheath management and sheath removal, and support pre- and post-cardiac catheterization care
    • Care for post-surgical patients following procedures such as CABG, AVR, MVR, TAVR, Mitral Clip, LAAO, VATS, carotid endarterectomy, and other vascular and thoracic surgeries
    • Operate and manage specialized equipment including arterial lines, chest tubes, epicardial pacing wires, femoral sheaths, TR band, Fem-stop, Doppler, bladder scanner, and EKG
    • Maintain accurate documentation using EPIC, administer medications via Pyxis, and communicate using SBAR methodology; float within the unit rotation as required
    Required Qualifications
    • Active RN license in North Carolina or a valid Compact state license
    • Minimum of 2 years of recent experience on a cardiac floor
    • Travel nursing experience required unless the candidate has more than 24 months of cardiac-specific experience
    • Proficiency in cardiac telemetry, PCU/DOU/IMC/stepdown care, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, post-MI care, and management of cardiac drips
    • Experience with non-invasive airway management including external CPAP/BiPAP, nasal cannula, and chest tubes (Emerson/Pleuravac)
    • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required; must pass EKG testing prior to start
    Preferred Experience / Skills
    • Arterial line management experience
    • Wound care and wound vac experience
    • Prior charge nurse experience
