Cardiac Stepdown RN Job Requirements

• Registered Nurse license in good standing
• At least 1 year of recent permanent experience in cardiac stepdown nursing or a closely related specialty
• Permanent Ohio RN license or compact-state license in hand at the time of application
• Active BLS certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Active ACLS certification
• Active NIHSS certification
• Recent professional reference from a manager, assistant nurse manager, supervisor, or director in the specialty
• Ability to complete ECG rhythm recognition and medication-safety assessments during orientation
• Comfort working rotating day and night shifts and caring for patients with complex cardiac and vascular needs

Cardiac Stepdown Nursing Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to cardiac stepdown and vascular surgery patients
• Monitor cardiac rhythms, vital signs, neurological status, and changes in patient condition
• Recognize and respond promptly to clinical deterioration and changes in cardiac status
• Administer medications and treatments safely in accordance with established standards of care
• Collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary care team to coordinate patient care and discharge planning
• Complete accurate clinical documentation and communicate patient updates during handoff
• Float, when needed, to comparable patient-care units and emergency services areas while caring for the same patient population
• Support a safe, respectful, and patient-centered care environment
