Cardiac Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) – Travel Nursing Contract in Boone, NC

Join a progressive care team as a Cardiac Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) on a 13-week travel nursing assignment in Boone, North Carolina. Support an Intermediate Medical Care Unit (IMCU) float pool while caring for adolescent, adult, pediatric, and geriatric patients in a 24-bed stepdown environment. Travel Nurse Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,980–$2,080
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks
• Start Date: October 26, 2026
• End Date: January 25, 2027
• Shift: Night shift, 7:00 PM–7:00 AM
• Shift Duration: 12 hours
• Shifts per Week: 3
• Schedule: Three 12-hour shifts per week; up to two weekend shifts per month and holiday coverage required
• Patient Ratio: 5:1, with a goal of 4:1
• Unit: 24-bed IMCU/progressive care stepdown setting with an average census of 20–24 patients
• Charting System: Epic; recent experience and proficiency required
• Floating: Float to Medical-Surgical (MedSurg) units based on patient volume
• Dress Code: Navy or white scrubs

Cardiac Stepdown RN Job Requirements

• Registered Nurse (RN) with at least 2 years of recent IMCU, PCU, progressive care, stepdown, or telemetry nursing experience
• At least 2 years of travel nursing experience
• Active North Carolina RN license or compact RN license
• Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS certifications; AHA certification preferred where applicable
• Recent Epic experience and electronic health record proficiency
• Strong telemetry monitoring and cardiac dysrhythmia interpretation skills
• Ability to manage cardiac drips, including heparin, nitroglycerin, Cardizem, and amiodarone, within established parameters and without upward titration absent a provider order
• Comfort caring for occasional pediatric patients in addition to adult and geriatric populations
• Willingness to float to MedSurg units and work weekends and holidays as scheduled
• Applicants must reside at least 40 miles from the assignment location

Cardiac Stepdown RN Responsibilities

• Provide safe, evidence-based nursing care to patients requiring progressive care and continuous telemetry monitoring
• Monitor cardiac rhythms, recognize dysrhythmias, and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition
• Administer and monitor cardiac medications and IV drips according to established protocols and provider orders
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments, administer medications, and document care accurately in Epic
• Manage central and peripheral lines, blood product administration, oxygen therapy, and non-invasive airway support
• Use rapid response and code team processes when clinically indicated
• Apply isolation precautions and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Float to MedSurg units based on census and staffing needs while maintaining high-quality patient care
• Collaborate with providers and the interdisciplinary care team to support timely interventions and patient recovery
