Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Cardiac Stepdown / Progressive Care (PCU) – Middletown, Ohio

  • Floating: Must be comfortable floating within the specialty cluster or to another nearby unit based on census and patient-care needs

Cardiac Stepdown Travel RN Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Ohio; an active Ohio or compact license is accepted
  • At least 1 year of recent registered nursing experience, preferably in cardiac stepdown, progressive care, PCU, telemetry, or a comparable acute-care setting
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
  • Demonstrated cardiac telemetry nursing experience, including interpretation of dysrhythmias and management of patients with complex cardiac conditions
  • Proficiency with Epic electronic health record documentation
  • Ability to successfully complete an online EKG and telemetry competency assessment before the assignment begins
  • Strong patient assessment, prioritization, communication, and clinical judgment skills
  • Comfort caring for patients with conditions such as congestive heart failure, myocardial infarction, stroke, TIA, renal failure, COPD, trauma, seizures, and postoperative cardiac needs
  • Flu vaccination is required; medical and religious exemptions may be considered

Cardiac Stepdown RN Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in a cardiac stepdown and progressive care environment
  • Continuously monitor cardiac telemetry, recognize changes in cardiac rhythm, and promptly escalate clinical concerns
  • Care for patients before and after cardiac catheterization, cardiac surgery, percutaneous interventions, cardiac stent placement, pacemaker procedures, electrophysiology studies, and cardiac ablations
  • Manage chest tubes, surgical drains, central lines, PICC lines, peripheral IVs, feeding tubes, and other complex medical devices
  • Provide and monitor BiPAP, CPAP, high-flow oxygen, and other respiratory therapies as ordered
  • Administer medications and therapies according to protocol, including anticoagulation, insulin, cardiac medications, and treatments for dysrhythmias
  • Monitor patients receiving peritoneal dialysis and those with renal failure or other complex medical conditions
  • Participate in rapid response and code team activities while maintaining a calm, patient-centered approach
  • Collaborate with providers and interdisciplinary partners, including respiratory therapy, pharmacy, radiology, rehabilitation services, social services, and care coordination
  • Document assessments, interventions, patient responses, and care plans accurately in Epic
  • Float as needed and provide safe, medically appropriate care across designated units
