Cardiac Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) - Night Shift Travel Nursing Assignment in Clinton, MD

Travel Registered Nurse (RN) opportunity in Clinton, Maryland for an experienced cardiac stepdown, intermediate care, PCU, or ICU nurse. This 13-week night shift travel assignment offers the opportunity to care for adult and geriatric patients with complex cardiac, neurologic, respiratory, and gastrointestinal or genitourinary conditions. The unit supports collaborative care with respiratory services, pharmacy, radiology, rehabilitation, rapid response teams, and other essential resources. Located in Prince George's County, Clinton provides a welcoming suburban setting with convenient access to Washington, D.C., nearby parks, local amenities, and the broader National Capital Region.

  • Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:4 on days, nights, and weekends
  • Weekend Coverage: Six weekend shifts, Saturday or Sunday, during a six-week period; every other weekend is required
  • Floating: May float to ICU, Emergency Department, and Medical-Surgical units as needed
  • Orientation: 24 hours

Registered Nurse Job Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maryland or a valid compact license
  • At least 2 years of recent Registered Nurse experience, including experience in an ICU, IMC, PCU, cardiac stepdown, or comparable critical care setting
  • At least one completed travel nursing assignment
  • Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications
  • Recent experience with Cerner electronic medical record systems
  • Strong cardiac telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation skills
  • Ability to successfully complete an EKG rhythm interpretation assessment with a minimum overall score of 80% and a perfect score on lethal rhythms
  • Two supervisory references, including one from the most recent assignment
  • Willingness to meet required vaccination and assignment compliance standards

Cardiac Stepdown RN Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, evidence-based nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in a cardiac stepdown and intermediate care (IMC) environment
  • Monitor cardiac telemetry, recognize and respond to dysrhythmias, and support patients with post-myocardial infarction and post-cardiac procedure needs
  • Care for patients requiring non-titratable cardiac and vasoactive infusions, heparin protocols, oxygen therapy, high-flow nasal cannula, BiPAP or CPAP, and ventilator or tracheostomy support
  • Manage central lines, PICC lines, peripheral IVs, chest tubes, feeding tubes, wound care, and blood product administration
  • Provide pre- and post-care for cardiac catheterization, angiography, hemodialysis, and other specialized procedures
  • Interpret arterial blood gases and assess patients with cardiac, neurologic, respiratory, and renal conditions
  • Use rapid response and code team resources when indicated, escalating changes in patient condition promptly
  • Accurately document assessments, interventions, and outcomes in Cerner
  • Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, radiology, physical therapy, social services, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team
  • Float to assigned units as needed while maintaining high standards of patient care and professional nursing practice
