Cath Lab and Interventional Radiology Technologist
About the Role:
This position involves working four 10-hour shifts each week, from 06:30 to 17:00, with weekday and weekend on-call requirements. The ideal candidate will be part of a dynamic team, contributing to patient care in a fast-paced environment.
Facility Overview:
- 107 beds
- Non-trauma designated
Unit Information:
- 1 Cath Lab, 1 Interventional Radiology (IR) room, 1 Hybrid room
- Utilization of a 3-person team in each room
Patient Types and Common Diagnoses:
- Cath Lab (required experience): LHC/RHC, diagnostic, interventional, IABPs, Rotablator, STEMIs/MIs, pacemakers, general changes, MICRAs, staged/protected PCIs, CTOs. Impella experience preferred. No EP/ablations performed.
- Interventional Radiology (preferred experience, training available): Coil embolizations, nephrostomy tubes/nephroureteral stents, central lines, ports, G/GJ tubes from scratch and exchanges, IVC filter, tunneled and temporary dialysis catheters, Inari/Penumbra/EKOS for clots, shockwave. Assists with CT/MRI biopsies. No Neuro IR or Y90s performed.
- Hybrid (preferred experience, training available): AAA grafts, peripheral/AO runoffs, fistulograms.
Daily Case Volume:
Typically, 7-14 cases are performed per day.
Required Licensure & Certifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN): BLS, ACLS
- Radiologic Technologist (RT): BLS, ACLS, ARRT or RCIS certification, State License
Key Responsibilities:
- RN Responsibilities: Read and interpret EKGs, circulate, sedate, transport patients. Monitoring cases is optional. If there is no ICU RN available for an IABP, the patient will be transported to a designated facility. The Cath Lab RN will accompany the patient and manage the IABP; "cheat sheets" for the machine are provided.
- RT Responsibilities: Scrub and pan simultaneously, perform room turnover efficiently. Experience with the Manifold is preferred.
Department Support:
- No transporter is available.
- A scheduler will arrange cases.
- Charge nurse or Lead Technologist available daily.
- Phlebotomy support is provided 24/7.
- RT and Hospitalist support available 24/7.
- Cardiologists and IR specialists are present during the day and available on call at night.
- Intensivist support available during the daytime, with on-call support at night.
Technology and Equipment:
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR): EPIC
- IV Pump: Alaris
- Medication Dispensing: Pyxis
- Hemodynamic Monitoring: Merge
- C-arms: GE
- Injector: MedRad
Orientation:
- Comprehensive MHS NEO orientation program.
- Travelers with no IR experience will receive 2 weeks of orientation; those with IR experience will receive approximately 1 week.
- During orientation, travelers will take buddy call.
- RNs are required to complete the MHS Tele test prior to starting.
Scheduling Expectations:
- Weekend rotation involves on-call assignments only.
- Scheduled call shifts during the week run from end of shift until the following morning.
- One weekend of on-call duty per month from Friday evenings to Monday mornings with a response time of 30
