Position: PPS Classroom-Based Nursing Pilot Program – Pioneer $$SN$$
Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Shift: Days – Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM – 2:30 PM
Duration: 36 weeks
Job Duties
• Provide direct nursing care and support within an assigned classroom throughout the school day.
• Support up to eight students with varying medical and healthcare needs.
• Administer medications as prescribed according to district policy.
• Perform routine nursing procedures, including G-tube feedings, catheter care, and blood glucose monitoring.
• Monitor students for seizure activity and provide appropriate intervention according to established care plans.
• Provide tracheostomy care, diabetes management, and other specialized nursing interventions as required.
• Respond appropriately to medical emergencies and changes in student condition.
• Work closely with special education staff to support students' medical and educational needs.
• Assist with implementing Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs), IEPs, and 504 health supports.
• Promote student independence and participation in classroom and educational activities.
• Provide nursing support during field trips, community-based instruction, and other school-related activities as assigned.
• Accompany students when transportation or community-based support requires nursing coverage.
• Maintain accurate documentation using district-approved platforms and forms, including medications, treatments, and student interactions.
• Collaborate with school teams and families within established communication protocols.
• Be prepared for reassignment to individual students or classrooms based on student needs and staffing requirements.
