Description:
Provides diabetes education, consultation, and evaluation of patient and program outcomes.
Minimum education required is an Associate's degree in Nursing or a Bachelor's degree in Dietetics.
Years of relevant experience may be substituted for required education.
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Independently writes, communicates, and implements teaching interventions for patients, families, and significant others.
Delivers educational material using teaching principles and a variety of formats for new pediatric inpatients and outpatients in group and individual sessions.
Delivers educational material appropriate for identified needs utilizing knowledge of growth and development for outpatients in group and individual sessions.
Assists in maintaining diabetes supplies.
Provides backup and assists other staff as necessary.
Assists with orientation and training of personnel and students.
Participates in and attends meetings as required or assigned.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Prepares periodic reports as requested.
Populations served include neonates, infants, early childhood, late childhood, adolescents, young adults, middle adults, and older adults.
