Description:
Assesses and responds to the individual physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of the patient through personal observation and interaction.
Acts as a patient advocate.
Utilizes professional nursing skills and judgment to implement nursing care and treat identified problems.
Communicates patient assessments to appropriate individuals to ensure the coordination of patient care.
Demonstrates knowledge of diagnostic measures such as labs, radiology, and EKG.
Documents in the patient clinical records via computer with accuracy and in a timely manner.
Checks the required information on the patient record to comply with the correct surgical procedures.
Completes the final review of patient records to ensure all paperwork and activities, such as site marking, are complete.
Provides appropriate and knowledgeable instruction/education to patients and their families.
Decrements supplies according to policy.
Utilizes supplies, equipment, and resources to contain costs without compromising patient care.
Assists with housekeeping duties such as cleaning and making beds as needed for patients.
When assigned to PACU, uses knowledge and critical thinking to assess and provide appropriate nursing care.
Recognizes patients' needs and maintains airway, monitors vital signs, utilizes correct medication to control pain, and consults with others if any difficulties arise that affect the patient.
Evaluates patient's status using discharge criteria to safely move the patient onto Phase 2.
Is familiar with the transfer process and procedure for sending a patient to other areas.
When functioning as a float nurse, maintains communication between all areas and is available to assist staff as needed to maintain flow.
Relieves staff for breaks and lunch in a timely manner.
Works as assigned in pain management and laser procedure rooms.
Familiar with supplies and assists with nerve blocks; knows the location of emergency equipment and medications.
Participates in meetings, offers suggestions for improvements, and seeks guidance when needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
