Registered Nurse - Medical Step-Down
Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse for a 13-week contract assignment in a Medical Step-Down unit located in Cleveland, Ohio. This role involves providing specialized care to patients who require an intermediate level of monitoring and intervention, bridging the gap between critical care and general medical units.
The successful candidate will be responsible for comprehensive patient assessment, medication administration, and collaboration with an interdisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes. This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment, caring for a diverse patient population with various medical conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care to individuals requiring medical step-down level of care, including continuous monitoring and rapid response to changes in patient condition.
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, interpret diagnostic data, and implement evidence-based nursing interventions.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring accuracy, patient safety, and adherence to facility protocols.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans.
- Educate patients and their families on health conditions, treatment plans, medication management, and discharge instructions.
- Operate and monitor specialized medical equipment commonly used in a step-down setting, such as cardiac monitors, ventilators, and infusion pumps.
- Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and timely documentation of patient care activities and responses.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of one (1) year of recent experience in a Critical Care or Step-Down unit.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Ohio.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Two (2) or more years of experience in a Critical Care or Step-Down unit.
- Professional nursing certification recognized by the Magnet Association.
Skills & Competencies
- Exceptional clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Proficiency in administering medications, managing IV lines, and titratable drips.
- Ability to monitor, interpret, and respond to cardiac rhythms and hemodynamic parameters.
- Experience with ventilators and other advanced monitoring equipment relevant to a step-down unit.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple patient assignments in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated compassion, empathy, and commitment to patient advocacy.
