Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Oncology Nurse Navigator RN with a DC license in hand and prior nurse navigator or radiation oncology experience preferred.

Details

  • Radiation Treatment Center setting supporting a Nurse Navigator role
  • Primarily cancer patients reporting Monday through Friday for radiation therapy
  • Day shift schedule, 4x10 hour shifts from 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM
  • Office duties include chart preparation, disability forms, pharmacy calls, and telephone triage
  • Starts IVs on adult patients
  • Uses Cerner for charting

Requirements

  • Active DC RN license required in hand
  • BLS certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience required within the last 7 years
  • Must have completed at least 1 previous travel assignment
  • Cerner charting experience required
  • Experience with port care and management, central line/implanted line care, and IV starts required
  • Experience managing oncologic emergencies including ATLS, anaphylaxis, extravasation injury, hemorrhage, sepsis, and spinal cord compression required
  • Experience with neutropenic precautions and tracheostomy care/management required
  • Experience with external radiation therapy (teletherapy) and radiation safety precautions required
  • Experience managing symptoms such as altered mental status, constipation/diarrhea, dysphagia, edema, nausea/vomiting, and neuropathy required
  • Wound care experience required
  • Radiation oncology experience preferred
  • Oncology and nurse navigator or nurse coordinator experience preferred

Additional Information

  • Provide patient education, skincare/wound care, and assessment of radiation toxicity and social needs
  • Assess and consult with attending physicians, residents, or emergency services regarding any concerning signs or symptoms
  • Flu vaccine required for all employees at this facility
  • Candidates must reside within 60 miles for local rate consideration
  • Driver's license address must match candidate's address on file
  • Two supervisory references required, including one from the most recent assignment, supporting at least 2 years of experience within the past 3 years
  • No RTO permitted during the first two weeks of the assignment, with a maximum of 7 days RTO per 13-week contract
  • Previous MedStar employees must have been separated for at least one year before returning as a traveler
  • Candidates may only be submitted to one MedStar location at a time
  • Manager interviews are not guaranteed
