Registered Nurse (RN)
General Information
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team. This position involves working in a Level 3 NICU, providing care for a diverse range of neonatal patients.
Facility Details
- Beds: 28
- Average Census: 13-16
- Location: City, State
Qualifications
- Minimum experience: 1.5 years in a relevant setting
- First-time travelers are welcome, but must have a minimum of 2 years experience
- Candidates must reside more than 100 miles away from the facility
- Permanently employed staff must wait one year before returning as a traveler
Patient Types
The unit cares for neonates of all gestational ages, including those with diagnoses such as:
- Low Birth Weight
- High Frequency Ventilation
- Nitric Oxide Treatment
- Total Body Cooling
- Feeders/Growers
Patient Ratios
The nurse-to-patient ratio is flexible, ranging from 1:1 to 1:4, depending on patient needs.
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- STABLE certification is preferred
Required Skills
Candidates must possess the following skills:
- Ventilator Management
- IV Starts and IV Medication Titration
- Chest Tube Management
- Experience in Neonatal Resuscitation (attending deliveries is expected)
Support on the Unit
- Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) - 1:10 ratio
- Charge Nurse available (1:25 ratio; attends deliveries)
- Phlebotomy services provided by RN
- Respiratory Therapists available
- Neonatologists - Three on staff, along with ten Neonatal Nurse Practitioners providing 24/7 coverage
- Transport Team available 24/7 for patient transfers
- Lactation Consultants available
Charting System/Equipment
- Charting System: EPIC (experience is a plus)
- Medication Dispensing: Omnicell
Schedule and Orientation
- Shifts available: 36 or 48 hours contracts
- Weekend rotation: No set weekends; travelers may predominantly work weekends
- Holiday Expectations: Requires working 2 out of 4 major holidays
- General orientation plus one day and one night on the unit
