Travel NICU RN – Level III NICU


Shift: Nights, 3x12 hours
Hours: 7:00 PM–7:30 AM
Contract: 91 weeks
Facility: Nationwide Children’s / Ohio State University
Unit: Level III NICU

Position Overview

This is a Level III NICU caring for neonates 22 weeks gestation and above, including very premature infants and babies requiring advanced respiratory, cardiac, surgical, and medical care.

Required Certifications

  • BLS
  • NRP
  • Valid Ohio or Compact RN license in hand at submission
  • Nursing education from an ACEN or CCNE-accredited program

Required Experience & Skills

  • At least 1 year of NICU experience
  • Level III and/or Level IV NICU experience
  • Experience caring for neonates under 24–28 weeks
  • Ventilator management: AC/PC, SIMV, CPAP, BiPAP, PEEP
  • Arterial line management
  • Central/implanted line care
  • UAC/UVC management
  • IV vasopressors
  • Surfactants and steroids
  • Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome
  • Dysrhythmia interpretation and management
  • Oral, NG and NJ tube management
  • Bottle, breast and gavage feedings
  • Infection control/isolation precautions
  • Epic charting experience

Patient Population

Common patients include neonates with:

  • Respiratory distress
  • Glucose management issues
  • Extreme prematurity
  • Cardiac conditions
  • Surgical conditions
  • Patients requiring transfer to the Nationwide Children’s main campus

Daily census: Approximately 30 neonates

Support Team

You’ll work with a multidisciplinary team including:

  • NPs
  • Respiratory Therapy
  • Pharmacy
  • Physical Therapy
  • Radiology
  • Social Services
  • Interpretation Services
  • Unit Secretary

Floating

Floating is required. Travelers may be asked to float to different units within the Ohio State University organization as needed.

Important Compliance Requirements

  • Ohio fingerprinting is urgent and must be completed immediately after signing the contract.
  • Strict compliance deadline is Tuesday before the start date — no exceptions.
  • Candidates outside Ohio but within driving distance may need to travel to Ohio for fingerprinting.
  • Candidates farther away may receive a fingerprinting packet by mail and must complete it urgently.
  • Unresponsiveness or delays with credentialing can result in a push or cancellation.
  • RTO must be submitted upfront and built into the contract.
  • Only one Ohio State location should be submitted at a time.
  • Current Ohio State University employees are not eligible for a travel assignment at any OSU hospital.
  • Former employees must have been away from the facility for at least 6 months.
  • 2 professional references required: at least 1 must be a manager, director, supervisor, or formal leader. Charge RN can be the second reference. Coworker references are not accepted.

Vaccines

  • COVID vaccine: Not required
  • Flu vaccine: Required; medical exemptions only

Parking Options

Agency staff have several CampusParc options, with costs subject to change:

  • WMC Agency Permit: $224.80/month
  • WB Permit: $16.35/month
  • CXS Permit: $32.83/month

Special Consideration

Candidates with previous Nationwide Children’s Hospital (NCH) experience will receive special consideration.
