Registered Nurse (RN) - Neonatal ICU

About the Position:

Seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The ideal candidate will thrive in a high acuity, fast-paced environment, providing exceptional care to critically ill newborns.

Unit Information:

  • Beds: 53 plus overflow (average patient census: 58)
  • Type of Unit: Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center
  • Teaching Hospital with a Chest Pain Center and Certified Stroke Center
  • Patient Ratios: Varies based on acuity (1:1, 1:2, 1:3)

Common Diagnoses:

  • Respiratory: Respiratory Distress Syndrome, Transient Tachypnea of the Newborn, Meconium Aspiration Syndrome, Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia
  • Cardiac: Congenital Heart Defects, Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension of the Newborn
  • Neuro: Seizures, Intraventricular Hemorrhage, Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy
  • GI/GU/Musculoskeletal/Endocrine: Necrotizing Enterocolitis, Feeding Intolerance, Acute/Chronic Renal Failure, Birth Trauma, Congenital Anomalies, Sepsis, Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of strong Level 3 and/or Level 4 NICU experience
  • Current RN license, BLS, and NRP certifications required
  • Comfortable with high acuity and fast-paced care environments
  • Experience with EPIC, EVD management, ICP and temperature monitoring devices, vasoactive drip titration, and critical care procedures

Support Staff:

  • Unit Secretary available every shift
  • 24/7 Charge Nurse
  • Resource Nurse and IV/VAT/PCVC Team available around the clock
  • In-house Intensivists, Residents, and Advanced Practice Providers (APP)
  • Unit-Based Educators and Clinical Supervisors

Technology/Equipment:

  • Electronic Medical Records: EPIC
  • IV Pumps: Alaris and Medfusion syringe pumps
  • Medical Dispensing: Omnicell
  • Monitoring Systems: Phillips
  • Additional Equipment: PIV Ultrasound, Tecotherm, and Breast Milk Scanning systems

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Weekend rotation required: 2 Fridays, 2 Mondays, and every other weekend
  • No on-call duty; travelers may be floated to similar units as needed
  • Holidays: Travelers are expected to work scheduled holidays
  • Shifts: 0645-1915 and 1845-0715

  • Scrub Color: Navy
  • Dress Code: Solid Navy or White, excluding tight outfits or organizational branded attire
  • Practice Guidelines: Adhere to "Bare Below Elbow" standard in nurseries
  • Parking: Free for all staff
