Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Level III NICU position requiring at least 2 years of RN experience with 1 year in specialty and a CA RN license.

Details

  • Level III NICU averaging 190 births per month
  • Day shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 6:00 AM to 6:30 PM
  • Weekend block schedule required (Friday-Sunday), with weekends potentially exceeding every other weekend based on unit needs
  • Patient ratio of 1:2-3
  • May float to Mother/Baby unit for well babies, with full floating possible for those with couplet care experience
  • No on-call requirements
  • Uses Epic charting system
  • Cares for neonates ranging from under 24-28 weeks to over 34 weeks gestation

Requirements

  • Active CA RN license required, compact license must be in hand at time of consideration
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience with at least 1 year in NICU specialty required
  • Candidates with Level IV NICU experience may be considered with less than 2 years of overall RN experience
  • Required certifications: BLS and NRP Advanced (or willingness to obtain NRP Advanced before start)
  • Community hospital experience required
  • Prior travel nursing experience preferred, though candidates with 2+ years of NICU experience may be considered without it
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Skilled in IV therapy, arterial line management, central line care, UAC/UVC management, and neonatal dosage calculations
  • Experience with ventilator management, high frequency ventilation, and respiratory distress syndrome care
  • Two supervisory references covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years required

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive NICU nursing care including high-risk delivery attendance, developmental care, and patient/family teaching
  • Skilled in APGAR scoring, thermoregulation, and neonatal abstinence syndrome management
  • Experience with phototherapy, blood glucose monitoring, and feeding management (bottle, breast, gavage) preferred
  • Respiratory care skills including Bubble CPAP, HFNC, oscillators, and Vapotherm preferred
  • Cardiovascular monitoring skills including dysrhythmia interpretation and telemetry
  • Navy blue scrubs required for RNs; L&D/OR scrubs provided by facility
  • Free parking available on site
  • Must commit to working 3 of the 5 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)
  • All requested time off must be submitted upfront during consideration process for facility approval
  • Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower bill rate
  • Former permanent staff must wait at least 3 months before returning as a travel nurse and must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility
  • First-time travelers are not accepted for this position unless they have 2+ years of NICU experience
  • Travelers may be required to float between sister facilities within the healthcare system
