Travel Nursing Job Details

  • Unit: Level III NICU with approximately 43 beds and a daily census of about 35
  • Patient Population: Neonates, including premature infants and critically ill newborns
  • Typical Ratios: 1:2–4
  • Scheduling: Self-scheduling with block scheduling availability
  • Weekend Coverage: Six weekend shifts during each six-week scheduling period
  • Call: Not required
  • Float: As needed to pediatric, PICU, or pediatric emergency department units

NICU Registered Nurse Job Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse license in Texas or a compact RN license in hand at submission
  • At least 2 years of recent NICU nursing experience
  • Level III NICU experience required; Level IV NICU experience strongly preferred
  • Current BLS certification
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • Recent experience caring for neonates from approximately 29 weeks gestation and older
  • Previous experience with Epic electronic health record documentation
  • Ability to care for patients with prematurity, respiratory distress, hypoglycemia, sepsis, hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, and postoperative conditions
  • Willingness to float to appropriate pediatric units when needed
  • Two professional references covering at least one year of experience within the past three years

Travel NICU RN Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe, evidence-based nursing care to critically ill neonates in a high-acuity neonatal intensive care unit
  • Perform comprehensive neonatal assessments, monitor changes in condition, and promptly escalate concerns
  • Manage respiratory support, including ventilators, CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, oscillators, and oxygen delivery systems
  • Administer medications, blood products, antibiotics, vasopressors, insulin, surfactants, and other neonatal therapies according to clinical standards
  • Provide care for central lines, UACs, UVCs, chest tubes, feeding tubes, tracheostomies, and other specialized equipment
  • Support neonatal procedures and treatments such as therapeutic hypothermia, phototherapy, sepsis workups, and management of necrotizing enterocolitis
  • Provide developmental care, thermoregulation, feeding support, and accurate neonatal dosage calculations
  • Educate and support parents and families while promoting safe bonding and breastfeeding or breast milk handling practices
  • Collaborate with providers, respiratory therapists, specialists, and interpretation services to coordinate individualized patient care
  • Accurately document assessments, interventions, patient response, and care plans in Epic
  • Float to designated pediatric units as needed while maintaining professional standards and continuity of care
