Registered Nurse (RN) - NICU

Job Overview

An exciting opportunity exists for a dedicated Registered Nurse specializing in Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU) to join our team. The role involves delivering exceptional care to newborns requiring specialized medical attention in a Level II Special Care Nursery.

Unit Information

  • Unit Type: NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit)
  • # of Beds: 12 licensed SCN neonatal beds
  • Births: Approximately 325 deliveries per month
  • Average Census: 10 in the Special Care Nursery
  • Patient Ratios: Typically 3:1, may adjust to 2:1 based on acuity

Shift Details

  • Shift Length: 12 hours
  • Schedule: Nights, including three weekend shifts per schedule, with potential to float to a sister facility
  • Weekend Requirements: 3 weekend shifts per month
  • Holiday Requirements: One major and one minor holiday if it falls within the assignment

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of NICU experience required; Level II NICU experience necessary, Level III experience preferred
  • Certifications: BLS Certification and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) required
  • Additional Skills: Nurses must be proficient in starting IVs; a pass/fail Sim Lab for foley catheter insertion is required on Day 1 of orientation

Patient Care

The unit cares for infants 32 weeks gestational age and above, including patients on CPAP and High Flow, feeder growers, and those with conditions such as respiratory distress, sepsis, and hyperbilirubinemia.

Team and Environment

  • Support Staff: A Patient Care Technician (PCT) assists with patient care
  • Medical Staff: Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (NNPs) and Pediatricians are in-house 24/7
  • Equipment: The unit is equipped for high-flow oxygen therapy and CPAP
  • Monitoring: There are no dedicated monitor techs; RNs collaborate with medical staff for interpretation of cardiac strips as needed.

Orientation

New hires will undergo a comprehensive orientation lasting two shifts to ensure familiarity with unit protocols and patient care standards.

Dress Code

Navy blue scrubs are required for staff.
