Qualifications
Required Skills
- Safe administration of medications, including calculations
- Adherence to the 5 rights of medication administration
- Appropriate handling of expressed breast milk (EBM)
- Care for patients with NG/OG tubes
- Following feeding orders from Occupational Therapy/Speech Therapy
- Care for patients on CPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula, and Nasal Cannula
- Management of PIVs, PICCs, UACs/UVCs
- Safe care for patients 22 weeks and older
- Understanding of all equipment used in the NICU
- Promotion of safe sleeping practices for infants at 32-34 weeks gestation
- Developmentally appropriate care techniques for preterm infants
- Proficiency in lab draws
- Adequate knowledge for escalating patient concerns
- Knowledge of Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) scoring
Preferred Skills
- Experience with endotracheal tubes (ETT), ventilators, JETs, cooling procedures, and surgical patients
