Description

American Traveler is hiring a Neuro Med/Surg RN for a night shift position requiring NIHSS certification and recent Epic experience.

Details

• 20-bed Neuro Med/Surg unit with 14 floor beds
• Patient ratios of 1:5-6 for floor patients
• Patient population includes neurosciences, DBS, stroke, seizures, surgical/post-op spine, and neurological disorders
• Uses Epic EMR
• 12-hour night shifts, 7p-730am
• Weekend night rotation: Friday/Saturday/Sunday or Saturday/Sunday/Monday
• Charge nurse available 24/7
• Nurse aides on unit with 1:7-10 ratios
• Telemetry present on unit, but RNs are not required to read strips (verification documented in Epic)
• RNs not required to manage vents; RT available 24/7 for floor vents
• Titration only performed per physician order in a step-down setting
• Floating required, first priority to 7E, 7W, 7NE, or 10E, then hospital-wide if needed

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certification required, with NIHSS in hand at time of consideration
• ACLS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Strong overall neuro nursing experience required
• Proficiency and frequency with G-tubes required
• Recent Epic EMR experience required

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care to neuroscience and post-surgical spine patients on a 20-bed unit
• One shift of unit-specific orientation provided
• Holiday rotation coverage expected
• Scrub colors limited to any combination of white and royal blue
• Three shifts in a row may be allowed but is not guaranteed; flexibility required
• Candidates must disclose any background check hits at the time of consideration
• Local candidates not accepted; radius rule of 50 miles for this facility
• Previous WVU Medicine travelers must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
• Travelers may not work within WVU Medicine for longer than one year without a 2-year break (cumulative experience applies)
